I Found Color on the 26th Day of Rain

At the Herkimer cafe I choose a seat at the bar inside the window, one that faces the wet red wall of a children's clothing shop. The wall has one narrow window and through its twinkle lights and the sheer curtain and above the picture books propped up against it, I can see a little girl with curly hair tugging at a pink dress.

Nine other women occupy the cafe tables. We are sitting by ourselves reading, sipping coffee, browsing the internet, sipping the solace and the mint green calm of the cafe walls. It is restful being in a room of women, alone together like this.

These are the colors I am finding on this rainy day--this twenty-sixth day of rain.
